About the Board of Supervisors

Topanga is located in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County and is served by the Third District Supervisor’s Office. Topanga is in a geographical area that has the common social identity of a town but without the local municipal designation as a city.

In an executive capacity, the board is the chief executive authority of the county and administers local government functions, similar to a mayor of an incorporated city.

In its legislative role, the Board may enact county ordinances and has broad authority under its police power to protect public health, safety, and welfare. In a quasi-judicial capacity, the Board is the decision maker responsible for final determinations in administrative hearings and public hearings in areas such as conditional use permits, variances, and subdivision maps, among others.

The Third District Supervisor acts as a liaison between the public and county agencies and officials.
