California Fair Plan Event at the Topanga Library Saturday, March 1, at 2:00p.m.
WHAT: California Fair Plan experts coming to Topanga to help residents struggling with policies, and coverage issues. Thanks to Senator Ben Allen, Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, and the Topanga Town Council, FAIR Plan experts have agreed to participate in a community forum to help residents whipsawed by wildfire insurance woes work through various challenges. These representatives are not your standard customer service agents. These are the experts that help brokers work through some of the most vexing cases faced by clients in wildfire-prone areas.
As many of you know, Topanga recently acquired the dubious distinction of having the highest insurance policy non-renewal and cancellation rate (20.7%) of any area in Southern California. Over 81% of homes in Topanga are currently on the FAIR Plan, and a substantial number of homes now have no insurance at all. Even for those lucky enough to be on the FAIR Plan, many of these homes are significantly under-insured, with no ability to rectify that due to a lack of “difference-in-conditions” (DIC) options and/or the $3 million hard cap on residential dwellings, which is allotted per parcel, not per structure.
It is important that you attend this workshop to learn the best strategies now for getting the coverage you need as well as to help shed light on the kinds of issues that residents have not been able to overcome, even with California Department of Insurance (CDI) Commissioner Lara’s recent regulatory changes, so that our State Legislators can begin introducing new laws to address these inadequacies.

The workshop will be organized as follows:
· (2:00-2:20pm) – FAIR Plan presentation and overview of the latest rule updates and trends
· (2:20pm-3:00pm) – Residents Q&A. (To ensure that your questions are answered, we request that you submit them in advance. Alternatively, you can raise your hand at the meeting).
· (3:00pm-5:00pm) – Assistance tables for direct help. Bring your policy numbers and any other documents that may help with your issue.
