CFP: Need Your Input Now

Stacy SledgeNews

The Topanga Town Council (TTC) is working to improve insurance access, affordability, and administration in our area. While the California Department of Insurance (CDI) plans to finalize new regulations by year’s end, many residents continue to face poor customer service with the California Fair Plan.

The FAIR Plan, as the “insurer of last resort,” has been overwhelmed by a surge in enrollments, leading to operational challenges. With over 90% of Topanga residents relying on the FAIR Plan due to the withdrawal of traditional insurers, issues with policy renewals, updates, and payments have escalated.

To address these concerns, the TTC has pushed for FAIR Plan representatives to engage directly with residents. After persistent efforts, including collaboration with Senator Allen’s office, we’ve tentatively scheduled a FAIR Plan information session/workshop during our January 15, 2024, public meeting. This session aims to address challenges like sudden cancellations, billing errors, and coverage hurdles that Topangans are facing.

We need your input!
As a condition of their participation, the California Fair Plan requires us to compile specific issues residents have encountered with their coverage. Please email a brief, anonymized description of your experiences by Friday, December 13 (earlier, if possible) to: contact@topangatowncouncil.org.  Your feedback will help shape this crucial discussion.

Thank you for your input and participation.  See you at the Topanga Town Council meeting on Wednesday, January 15th at 6:00pm at the library.
