LA County Library Turns 110!

LA County Library 1931

September 5, 2022 Marks the LA County Library's 110th Birthday 
Published September 5, 2022, at 10:30 a.m.

On September 5, 1912, the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors established the “County Free Library.” The first branch was established on April 23, 1913 in one room of Mrs. Belle Jenks’ home in Willowbrook, with a collection of just 50 books. In 1931 — more than 90 years ago! — the Library’s Summer Reading Program was inaugurated.

West Basin Calls for No Outdoor Watering for 15 Days in September to Repair Pipeline

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 6, residents and businesses in portions of greater Los Angeles County are being called on to suspend outdoor watering for 15 days as a critical imported water pipeline is shut down for emergency repairs. This will impact Topanga.
