Undergrounding Project Update

The undergrounding work in downtown Topanga will resume on January 9, 2022. LA County Public Works and SCE are coordinating the activities and work schedule and have provided the update below. *Please note that some of the work you may see occurring in Topanga could be part of another program, such as the bridge repair project or Caltrans slope stabilization and maintenance work, that are also being done at this time.

A public scoping meeting/webinar will be held live on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., via Zoom to provide an overview of the project, summary of the environmental process, and receive input regarding environmental issues and the suggested scope and content of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR). This meeting/webinar will include the required agency and public scoping. The goal is to stabilize the slope above to prevent rocks from falling onto the roadway, blocking the road, and potentially injuring motorists.

SCE's Topanga Utility Underground Project

NOTICE:  Important Information About Electrical System Upgrades in the Downtown Area of Topanga.

After many delays, the final stage of SCE's Topanga Utility Underground Project is scheduled to begin on 9/10/21 and be completed in approximately two months. Some of the work will be done during the daytime but mostly at night. Hours of operation will vary. *Please be advised these dates and times are subject to change due to unforeseen operational factors or inclement weather. Work hours will vary based on permit conditions.

Topanga's first-ever virtual evacuation drill provided vital information on how the Topanga community can survive "the big fire". The August 12th Drill was sponsored by LA County Fire, Office of Emergency Preparedness, Sheriff's Dept., CHP, Animal Care & Control, TCEP and the Topanga Town Council. Officials gave a step-by-step presentation on how residents can survive a wildland fire under the worst conditions.
